The Blackhawk Philosophy

A tighter bit won’t necessarily get better results… neither will a tighter set of rules.

At BlackHawk, we believe that interacting with and riding your horse should be fun. We believe that horsemanship is something everyone and anyone can be successful with. We believe that there’s no reason you shouldn’t be up and riding your horse by the second lesson. At BlackHawk our view is that both horse and rider benefit from guidance and education, and each horse and rider has their own personality. We believe that a flexible approach to training is the key to success. Our goal is to teach you to understand how to better communicate with and ‘read’ your horse’s behavior and personality. If you master that – and anyone can – your horse will be more responsive, your bond will be stronger and your overall experience will be enriched.

THE 4 AGREEMENTS

These agreements are an integral part of BlackHawk’s philosophy. Gossip, the root of so much drama at so many horse facilities, can be the worst thing to befall a community of horsemen. Gossip cannot be tolerated if we are to create an equine facility that is wonderful to be a part of. If you have a situation that needs to be addressed, take it directly to Caitlin, the Head Trainer, or Helen, the Owner. Do your best, and let’s make this a wonderful place to ride!

BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Don’t use your words against yourself or others. Never gossip - you take all power away from yourself the moment you do.

DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS
Don’t assume anything! Find the courage to ask questions and express what you need and what you want. Communicate and be as clear as you can to avoid drama.

DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY
What others say and do in their life is how they view the world around them. That is their view. Not yours. It’s never because of you.

AWAYS DO YOUR BEST
Understand that your best will change from moment to moment, day to day. It is your best, not anyone else’s. In all of the circumstances in your life, simply do your best.
